Silver Oak Custom Homes has been building luxury homes throughout the Portland
Metropolitan area since 1998. Although in its infancy as a company,
the experience behind Silver Oak Custom Homes extends back to the founders
childhood. Roger and Richard Edwards are the bi-product of over three
generations of the Edwards family building in Oregon.
Starting at an early age, these two brothers were exposed to the family tradition
by their father, Frank Edwards who ran a building supply and planing mill
in Albany, Oregon. Both boys worked for their father while growing up.Their
background
was also enhanced by their grandfather's experiences. Grandfather, Martin
Edwards built commercial projects in Portland and subdivisions in Hermiston,
Salem and Albany. Grandfather, Amos Crook was a cabinet maker from England
who added to their education of fine craftsmanship and quality finished products.
Later as their careers developed, they worked for their uncle, Allen C. Edwards
who from the early 1950's to the mid 1980's built over three thousand living
units as well as commercial projects, and developed some of the finest subdivisions
in the metro area. Roger handled the sales for several of the subdivisions,
while Richard worked as a designer and later managed the construction division.
Even today you will find local ads for these older homes with the words "Edwards
Built" proudly stated.
Roger Edwards began his career in the late 1960's selling real estate throughout
Portland. In the 80's and 90's Roger was among the top agents for Barbara
Sue Seal and then The Equity Group. In the 1990's he joint ventured with a
friend and formed Edwards Development Company. Some of the subdivisions they
developed are Anton Park, Portlock Heights and Koven Heights. After several
years of land development, Roger decided to expand his business endeavors
and started a construction company, Oak Knoll Construction, Inc. he built
over 50 homes in 3 years. As the real estate market began to change Roger
decided it was time to venture into a different housing market. Oak Knoll
Construction was dissolved and Silver Oak Custom Homes, Inc. was formed with
a vision for building high end homes of superior quality.
Richard Edwards learned his trade with the family company starting in the
early 1960's designing homes and later he managed the construction division
for Allen C. Edwards. Richard oversaw the design and construction of many
new homes in the Edwards subdivisions such as Hidden Springs Ranch, Sorrento
Ridge, Hyland Hills and Bauer Woods. In 1972, Edwards Industries had their
largest building year with 178 starts in 9 different areas. In 1984, Richard
and his wife, Joyce, started R. E. Edwards Construction Co. and built and
designed 100 homes on a custom basis. In 1998, Richard joined brother Roger
to form Silver Oak Custom Homes, Inc.
To keep with the family tradition in 1998 they were also joined by Roger's
daughter, Wendy Graves, who manages the office, accounting, and marketing.
In 1999 Wendy's husband, Matt Graves joined the team to assist in the supervision
of daily construction activities and administer warranty service.
Silver Oak Custom Homes, Inc. is a company designed to build homes of the
highest caliber. To ensure the best experience for everyone involved production
is limited to a maximum of six homes per year, paying special attention to
the needs of clients, before, during and after construction. With over 70
years of combined real estate and construction experience, they have built
a solid reputation among their clients, homeowners, and trade partners, and
have proven the longevity of their family's traditions.
